A 32-year-old woman from Nyimba District in Eastern Province has accused her stepfather of raping her after she suffered an epileptic seizure, resulting in a pregnancy.

The suspect, identified as Brusho Lungu, is currently on the run, prompting police to launch a manhunt to bring him to justice.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed that the matter was reported to Nyimba Police Station at around 14:30 hours by Rosemary Lungu of Eleseba Village under Chief Ndake.

According to police, the alleged rape is believed to have occurred on an unknown date in June 2026.

Police said Rosemary, who is an epilepsy patient, suffered a seizure outside her home before losing consciousness. She later regained consciousness inside her stepfather’s sitting room, where she allegedly discovered semen on her private parts and suspected she had been sexually assaulted.

After the incident, Rosemary reportedly confronted her stepfather about what had happened, but he allegedly remained silent.

She later informed her mother, who allegedly advised her not to disclose the matter to anyone.

Police further stated that approximately two months later, Rosemary realised she had missed her menstrual cycle and suspected she was pregnant.

She again confronted her stepfather, informing him that she believed he had sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. However, police say he did not respond to the allegations.

Rosemary later informed her mother about the pregnancy, but according to police, her mother told her she was free to report the matter wherever she wished.

Mr Mweemba said police have since issued a medical report form to facilitate investigations.

“No arrest has been made,” he said.

The suspect remains at large, while police investigations and the manhunt continue.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to report to the nearest police station.
