Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund Leads $55 Billion Acquisition of Electronic Arts
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), together with a consortium of investors that includes Affinity Partners, has officially completed the acquisition of video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) in a deal reportedly valued at $55 billion.
Following the completion of the transaction, Electronic Arts has been delisted from the stock market and is now operating as a privately held company, marking one of the largest acquisitions in the global gaming industry.
Electronic Arts is one of the world’s leading video game companies, known for major franchises including EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA), Madden NFL, Battlefield, The Sims, Apex Legends, Need for Speed, and Dragon Age. The acquisition places ownership of these globally recognized gaming brands under the new investor consortium.
The purchase further expands Saudi Arabia’s investment strategy in the global gaming and esports sectors. Through the Public Investment Fund, the Kingdom has invested billions of dollars in gaming companies, esports organizations, and game development as part of its broader Vision 2030 initiative to diversify the economy beyond oil.
The involvement of Affinity Partners, alongside PIF and other investors, reflects continued interest from international investment firms in the rapidly growing interactive entertainment industry.
Industry analysts say the move could provide Electronic Arts with greater flexibility to pursue long-term growth strategies outside the pressures of quarterly public-market reporting. However, the acquisition is also expected to draw attention from regulators and gaming industry observers due to the size of the transaction and the strategic importance of EA within the global video game market.
If confirmed, the $55 billion deal would rank among the largest buyouts ever completed in the video game industry.
