Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing equitable and quality education for all through sustained investment in teacher recruitment, implementation of the competence-based curriculum and improved learning infrastructure.
Speaking during the 30th Graduation Ceremony of the Zambia Institute of Special Education (ZAMISE), held in collaboration with the University of Zambia (UNZA), Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary Wisdom Bwalya, who was represented by Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Noriana Muneku, said government remains committed to strengthening the education sector.
He said government has also advanced the implementation of the competence-based curriculum, enacted the Free Education Policy into law and introduced special education grants to support learners with special educational needs and disabilities.
Mr Bwalya congratulated the 54 graduates on completing their studies and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity and innovation as they begin their teaching careers.
The Permanent Secretary also commended ZAMISE for attaining outstanding results in the 2025 examinations, including a 100 percent pass rate in the Early Childhood Education Teacher’s Diploma, Special Education programmes and Bachelor’s Degree programme.
He further encouraged the institution to strengthen its production units to generate additional income while equipping students with entrepreneurial skills, adding that government remains committed to addressing infrastructure and resource challenges facing the college.
“You are mentors, role models and agents of social change. Teach with integrity, innovate with purpose and never underestimate the change that one committed teacher can spark in transforming communities and inspiring future generations,” Mr. Bwalya said.
Meanwhile, the University of Zambia has urged newly qualified special education teachers to champion inclusive education by ensuring that every learner, regardless of disability or educational needs, has equal opportunities to succeed.
UNZA Vice Chancellor Professor Mundia Muya, who was represented by Professor Daniel Njovu said the graduates have a unique responsibility to implement the competence-based curriculum by identifying learners’ strengths, providing appropriate support and integrating assistive technologies and digital resources into teaching.
Professor Njovu said this year’s graduation theme, “Equity and Competence in a Digital Age,” reflects Zambia’s commitment to preparing learners with practical skills, creativity, innovation and critical thinking required in a rapidly changing world.
He further encouraged the graduates to uphold ZAMISE’s mission and values by promoting inclusive practices, embracing lifelong learning and contributing to educational research and innovation.
“Graduation is not the end of learning, but the beginning of continuous professional growth,” he said.
