Inspector General of Police, Graphel Musamba, has directed all police officers to discharge their duties with professionalism, integrity, neutrality and respect for the constitution, ahead of the August polls.

In a statement issued to the media, Mr Musamba, says the Police have enhanced crime detection operations and Rapid Response Teams across all provinces, in a bid to ensure that every eligible citizen can vote freely and peacefully, without intimidation.

Mr Musamba further directed the police officers to exercise respect for human rights while dealing with criminal conduct, protect every citizen equally and arrest all individuals who commit crime, regardless of political affiliation.

He said that the Police and Electoral Commission of Zambia have coordinated measures to safeguard electoral materials, polling stations, election officials and integrity of the electoral process.

“Every voter, every candidate and every election official will be protected without fear, favour or political consideration,” said Mr Musamba.

Mr Musamba said that the Zambia police service has progressively implemented its 2026 electoral security plan with additional police officers deployed across the country to strengthen police visibility, improve response times and reassure communities.

Mr Musamba also urged members of the public to play a part in safeguarding peace by returning home, to work or continue with lawful activities after casting their votes and avoid loitering around polling stations, unless as accredited by the ECZ.

He also urged members of the public to obtain election results only from official and authorised sources and to avoid circulating or relying on unverified information, rumours and speculative announcements on social media.

Mr Musamba further urged the public to expect increased police presence and snap security checkpoints on selected roads, as a preventive measure that is intended to enhance public safety.
