The Zambia Police Service has charged two individuals with criminal trespass after they allegedly entered a residence in Chalala, Lusaka, without the owner’s consent.
The incident was reported at Lubwa Police Station at around 11:00 hours by Patricia Mulenga, who reportedly discovered the two suspects inside her bedroom.
According to a statement issued by Zambia Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha, preliminary facts indicate that Mulenga had gone to take a shower and, upon returning, allegedly found Nsanda Phiri sleeping on her bed, while Natasha Chanda was reportedly attempting to undress.
Police said both individuals appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The complainant reportedly questioned the two, who appeared surprised, before police were called to the residence.
Officers subsequently apprehended Phiri and Chanda and took them to Lubwa Police Station, where they were formally charged with criminal trespass.
The two suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court.
Police have not disclosed why the two individuals allegedly entered the residence or how they came to be inside the bedroom.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha has reminded members of the public to respect other people’s property, privacy and lawful rights.
She further urged citizens to refrain from entering private premises without the consent of the occupants or lawful authority.
The case serves as a reminder that entering another person’s property without permission can result in criminal proceedings, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the alleged entry.
