Zambian striker Patson Daka has been ruled out for the coming weeks after returning to German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV (HSV) from international duty with an injury.
HSV confirmed on Friday, October 2, 2026, that detailed medical examinations, including an MRI scan conducted at the Athleticum at Volkspark, revealed that Daka had suffered a torn muscle fibre in his left thigh.
“Patson Daka has returned from the Zambian national team with an injury,” HSV stated in its injury update.
The German club said the MRI scans had established the precise diagnosis and confirmed that the Zambian international will be sidelined for the coming weeks.

Daka sustained the injury while on international duty with Zambia during the ongoing 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign. He was substituted at half-time during Zambia’s 3-1 defeat to Algeria on September 25 and subsequently missed the Chipolopolo’s 2-0 victory over Togo on September 29.
The injury comes at a difficult time for Daka, who recently joined Hamburger SV after leaving Leicester City. The 27-year-old striker has featured in all five of HSV’s competitive matches so far this season, starting three of them and registering one assist, according to the club.
His absence will also be a setback for HSV as the club prepares to resume Bundesliga action after the international break. The German side is scheduled to face Hoffenheim away on October 10.
HSV has not provided an exact return date for Daka, stating only that he will miss the coming weeks as he undergoes recovery from the thigh injury.
The development will also be closely followed in Zambia as the Chipolopolo continue their preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign and await the striker’s recovery.
