The Department of Veterinary Services in Northern Province has vaccinated 9,404 cattle against the Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), in Mbala and Senga Hill Districts.

The ongoing exercise represents a 41.5 percent coverage of the department’s total target of 22,655.

Mbala District Veterinary Officer, Goliath Zulu, told  the media in an interview that the department received 23,000 doses of the CBPP vaccines for the operation.

Dr Zulu, revealed that the exercise commenced on August 9 and is expected to conclude during the third week of September 2026.

“Northern Province received 23,000 doses of CBPP vaccines for Mbala and Senga Hill districts, and the vaccination exercise commenced on August 9, 2026.So far we have vaccinated 9,404 cattle achieving 41.5 percent coverage against 22,655 target,” Dr Zulu explained.

He clarified that the annual exercise is only targeting high risk areas which are the two districts.

The Veterinary officer stated that the exercise aims to prevent animal disease outbreaks, noting that the province remains free of any current outbreaks and is on track with preventive measures.

Dr Zulu urged farmers to cooperate with extension officers by bringing their animals for the activity and encouraged them to report any animal health challenges.
