United Party for National Development (UPND) Northwestern Provincial Chairperson Adam Sepezo has called on voters to re-elect President Hakainde Hichilema in the August 13 general elections, to enable the government to continue implementing its development agenda.

Mr Sepezo says the UPND administration has recorded significant progress in various sectors of the economy since assuming office in 2021.

He noted that the achievements include investments in education, health, agriculture, social protection and employment creation.

Mr Sepezo was speaking to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Solwezi district, shortly after a stakeholder meeting with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) at Solwezi College of Education.

He said President Hichilema had delivered on most of the UPND’s 2021 campaign promises, including restoring peace and order and addressing political violence and cadreism.

Mr Sepezo said the re-election of President Hichilema will provide an opportunity for the government to consolidate the gains made and further transform the economy.

He cited sustainable agriculture, mechanisation, social protection programmes and the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) as some of the interventions that have contributed to improving people’s livelihoods.

Mr Sepezo said education remains a key priority for the government, citing the reintroduction of free education, the school feeding programme, increased meal allowances for students and the recruitment of teachers.

He said the government had also recruited health workers, Zambia Police Service officers, Zambia National Service personnel and members of the Zambia Army, among others.

‘‘The recruitment of workers across various sectors demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for Zambians,’’ he said.

He has, however, urged citizens to maintain peace and unity before, during and after the elections.

Mr Sepezo further called on political players and their supporters to reject political violence and resolve differences through dialogue and lawful channels.
