President Hakainde Hichilema has sworn in Patricia Malaila, as Deputy Auditor General Audits, in the office of the Auditor General at State House today.

During the swearing in ceremony at State House, President Hichilema highlighted the significance of the utilisation of public resources and the timely delivery of audits.

“Accountability is crucial, all of us in public office must understand that we are accountable to the people of Zambia in what we do and superintending on resources that are availed to us,” President Hichilema said.

President Hichilema further said that the Office of Deputy Auditor General Audits plays an important role to the citizens of Zambia.

The Head of State added that the Government is open to bring in skills and expertise from across the country.

He noted that accountability is crucial and everyone has a duty to comply with utilising resources in the most efficient and effective way.

“As Deputy Auditor General Audits, we expect you and your team to deliver audits on a timely basis,’” President Hichilema said.

The President said that audits should be delivered and concluded on time.

Mr Hichilema has since urged Ms Malaila to identify institutional weaknesses that require remedy, adding that this will help in the improvement of the use of public resources.

And the newly sworn in Deputy Auditor General Audits, Patricia Malaila says that her office is committed to ensuring that real time audits are done.

“We will ensure that audits are done as an event is happening to prevent mistakes other than correcting after a mistake has been made,” Ms Malaila said.

Ms Malaila added that resources will be utilised accordingly, adding that every cent will be accounted for.

She said audits that will have an impact on the lives of people will be conducted so that the citizens can benefit.

The President is mandated by the Constitution of Zambia to appoint office bearers with the respective articles of the Constitution thereof.
