The Tonse Alliance has been thrown into another dispute, this time over who has the authority to submit the list of Members of Parliament to be appointed through the Proportional Representation system.

The latest disagreement follows claims by the National Restoration Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) that members of the Tonse Alliance are not eligible to be nominated under the proportional representation arrangement.

Peter Sinkamba, a member of the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance, has challenged the position, arguing that NRPUP leader Ezra Tembo cannot be the person to nominate the MPs because he was not a presidential candidate in the 2026 election.
Sinkamba maintains that Brian Mundubile, who led the Tonse Alliance into the presidential election, should instead be the person responsible for coming up with the list.

The dispute comes against the backdrop of wider divisions within the opposition alliance following the 2026 general elections.
The question now is not only who qualifies for the proportional representation seats, but also which political authority within the alliance has the legal and political mandate to submit the names.

The disagreement adds another layer to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of the Tonse Alliance and its component parties following the August 13 election.
