Earlier this week, First Quantum Minerals’ Kansanshi Mining PLC welcomed students from 19 STEM schools across Solwezi for an immersive learning experience, giving learners a firsthand look at how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are applied to solve real-world challenges in the mining industry.

The visit forms part of preparations for the 2nd Kansanshi Education Hackathon, taking place on 19 September 2026, where students will put their creativity, problem-solving and technical skills to the test as they develop innovative solutions to real industry challenges.

To further strengthen digital learning, 120 computers have been donated to participating schools, while 22 secondary school ICT teachers, alongside participating students, received foundational training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), equipping them with knowledge and tools to engage with the technologies shaping tomorrow

. At First Quantum Minerals, we believe that investing in education is an investment in the future. Through mine visits, digital skills training, mentorship and educational hackathons, we are helping bridge the gap between the classroom and industry while creating opportunities for young people to turn knowledge into impact.
