THE Zambia Police Service has confirmed multiple arrests following isolated incidents during and after the August 13 General Elections.

In Matero, Lusaka Province, nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of 57-year-old polling agent LOVEMORE CHISHIMA.

Mr. CHISHIMA was allegedly assaulted at Kasamba Polling Station and later died.

According to a statement issued by Inspector General of Police GRAPHEL MUSAMBA, the suspects are in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, police arrested six men allegedly found in possession of offensive weapons, 22 rounds of ammunition and a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Police say they are seeking SEAN TEMBO to assist with investigations.

Meanwhile, in Kalomo, Southern Province, one suspect was arrested following an incident in which four people were assaulted, with one victim sustaining a gunshot wound.

Police recovered a firearm and ammunition.

In Kasama, Northern Province, police are also investigating an attack on the residence of Acting Permanent Secretary BEAUTY UNDI-PHIRI, allegedly carried out by armed supporters of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity.

One suspect has since been apprehended.

Mr. MUSAMBA says although the overall conduct of the elections was peaceful, police are taking the reported incidents seriously.

He has warned against incitement, unlawful activities and the spread of false information, while urging citizens to remain calm and allow the Electoral Commission of Zambia to professionally manage and announce the election results.
