Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary, Beauty Undi-Phiri, has urged Mungwi Town Council Chairperson, Henry Mumba, to put the interest of people first and improve service delivery in the area.

Ms Undi-Phiri said the council should focus on addressing the needs of communities by ensuring prudent utilisation of public resources.

She said this through Assistant Director of Planning, Christopher Bwalya, at the inauguration of the Mungwi Council Chairperson and 15 councillors from Mpanda and Malole constituencies.

Ms Undi-Phiri said the people of Mungwi have high expectations from the local authority hence the need to work hard and support the government of the day.

“The people of Mungwi district deserve better services, improved infrastructure and enhanced economic opportunities,” she said.

She also called on the new council leadership to put political differences aside and provide services to all residents without discrimination based on political affiliation.

Ms Undi-Phiri said priority should be given to road infrastructure, education, health facilities, economic empowerment programmes and support for small scale businesses.

And Mungwi Town Council Secretary, Benjamin Kasongo, congratulated the newly elected leaders and urged them to immediately focus on serving the people in their respective wards.

“I urge all residents to work as a team to bring development to our district,” he said.

Meanwhile, newly elected Mungwi Council Chairperson, Henry Mumba, pledged to serve the people regardless of their political affiliations.

“Top on my priority list is to engage the Mwine Lubemba Chitimukulu, church leaders, civil servants and the council to come up with the development plan,” Mr Mumba said.

And former Mungwi Town Council Chairperson, Grace Chisanga, called on her successor to be humble, listen to people and act with impartiality.

Ms Chisanga also urged the incoming leadership to work with the government for meaningful development to be recorded in the area.
