Less than 24 hours after being confirmed as Member of Parliament for Munali Constituency, Thomas Sipalo has launched his first act in office: asking to be added to every community WhatsApp group in Munali.

The move has been largely welcomed by residents across the constituency who say it shows a commitment to listening and accountability from day one.

In messages shared to residents, Sipalo made a clear request to group admins and community leaders.

“I kindly request to be added to all community WhatsApp groups across our constituency. In Salama Park, Avondale, Chelstone, Jesmondine, Handsworth, PHI, Chamba Valley, and all other communities in Munali,”he said.

He followed with a broader “Call to All Munali Residents” listing Mtendere East, Mtendere, Salama Park, Avondale, Chelstone, Jesmondine, Kamanga, Handsworth, PHI, Chamba Valley, and all other communities.

“The purpose is for us to start engaging directly, listen to you, and together we identify and list the challenges affecting our communities,”Sipalo stated.

WhatsApp has provided a platform where community challenges such as drainage problems, water cuts, market issues, and security concerns are usually reported.

Community leaders have described the move as “practical leadership” and “a door that is open.”

The WhatsApp push follows Sipalo’s earlier pledge of “more development, less politics” and a promise to represent all residents regardless of how they voted.

With Parliament set to resume, attention will now turn to how feedback from the groups is translated into Constituency Development Fund projects and service delivery in Munali’s 5 wards.
