FORMER mines and minerals minister Paul Kabuswe says the ‘National Miners Day’ already passed through the National Assembly and is awaiting the President’s determination of the date for its observance.

Recently NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile during his campaign on the Copperbelt said if elected, he will declare a ‘National Miners Day’ in honour of miners.

Speaking during a campaign rally, Tuesday, Kabuswe who is UPND Chililabombwe aspiring parliamentary candidate accused the Tonse Alliance of copying initiatives that the UPND government has already implemented.

“They said they want to bring ‘Miners Day’, the UPND already did that and it even passed through Parliament. We are just waiting for the President to set which day/date will be ‘Miners Day’. We already did that. Why do you like copying? I told you, who is better between the one who is copying and the one who is working? Who is working, isn’t it? But can you remove someone who is working and put someone who is copying? When you hear them speaking, you can ask yourself, ‘what is this man talking about?” he said.

Kabuswe urged people not to allow “thieves” back into power, accusing them of having destroyed the country.

“We shouldn’t allow thieves, they stole and destroyed the mines. You who destroyed are the ones saying you’ll fix it? You are the ones who damaged it. You are the ones who left the country with debt and the person cleaning it up is Hakainde Hichilema, through construction of roads, free education and the feeding programme. Even the mines, he is rebuilding the country. You’ve even seen that he has kept money which you are eyeing and want to come and steal, you won’t steal it,” said Kabuswe.

“Don’t be lied to. They said, ‘we want to come back and do what we did during Edgar Lungu’s time, we want to do it times two’. Meaning the gassing and cadres beating people will be times two. Us, we want a peaceful country which President Hakainde has done, respect to people and paying the country’s debt, that’s a government that will continue”.
