NAMIBIA RANKS 2ND IN THE WORLD FOR NEW FOREIGN INVESTMENT
Namibia is attracting major international attention
The country has been ranked 2nd globally and 1st in Africa on the 2026 fDi Intelligence Greenfield FDI Performance Index, which measures how successful countries are at attracting new foreign investment projects compared with the size of their economies.
Namibia scored 7.74, ranking behind the United Arab Emirates, which took first place.
In simple terms, Namibia is attracting more new investment projects than its relatively small economy would normally be expected to receive.
In 2025, Namibia attracted 16 new greenfield FDI projects, compared with 19 in 2024.
Some of the investments included projects in:
• Gold mining
• Solar power
• Carbon farming and biofuels
• Biomass and renewable energy
Namibia’s growing oil and gas potential in the Orange Basin, along with opportunities in green hydrogen, renewable energy, mining, agriculture, logistics and tourism, is increasing international investor interest.
But the ranking also comes with a warning: investment rankings mean little if ordinary Namibians do not see the benefits.
The country still needs better infrastructure, faster government services, clearer regulations, more skills development and greater access to finance for local businesses.
The real question now is:
Can Namibia turn growing foreign investment into jobs, industries and lasting wealth for Namibians ?
