CHILILABOMBWE — National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu took their campaign to Chililabombwe on Monday as the grouping intensifies its push for votes ahead of the August 13 general elections.

The rally drew a large crowd, with supporters turning out in numbers to listen to the duo, the atmosphere is electric, with music and dance forming part of the program as the party sought to mobilize voters on the Copperbelt.

Addressing the gathering, Mundubile said the campaign was about engaging directly with communities and listening to their concerns. He referenced the party’s activities over the weekend in Chambishi and Mufulira, saying the response from residents had been encouraging.

“Yesterday was another powerful day of engaging with the people, listening to their voices, and sharing a vision for a stronger Zambia. The journey continues! thank you, Chambishi and Mufulira, for the warm welcome and incredible energy,” Mundubile told supporters.

He said the Copperbelt remains central to Zambia’s economy and that any government that ignores the needs of mining communities does so at its own peril.

The NRPUP presidential candidate repeated his pledge to prioritize jobs, safe mining practices, and opportunities for youths in mining towns, including access to mineral dump sites that he says should be reserved for Zambians.

Running mate Makebi Zulu also addressed the crowd, urging voters to turn out in large numbers on polling day. He said the alliance was offering an alternative focused on accountability, job creation, and restoring dignity to working people.

Mundubile used the Chililabombwe platform to restate a key campaign commitment he made earlier in Luanshya. He said an NRPUP government would officially declare a National Miners’ Day to honor workers in the mining sector.

As judged from cheers, the promise seems to have been well received in Chililabombwe, a town whose economy is closely tied to copper mining.

The Tonse Alliance has spent the last week campaigning across the Copperbelt, holding meetings in Kalulushi, Chambishi, Mufulira, and now Chililabombwe. Party officials say the tour is aimed at consolidating support in what they describe as a decisive province ahead of the polls.

With less than three weeks to the general election, both the ruling UPND and opposition parties have increased the tempo of rallies. Mundubile and Zulu are expected to continue their Copperbelt program before moving to other provinces as they make their final push for State House.

“We will talk to Facebook and Meta when you vote for us so that Content Creators can be Making money in Zambia,” he also added.

The next stop is Chingola before they head out to North Western Province.

In a statement shared with supporters, Mundubile wrote:

Fellow Zambians,

Today in Mpatamato, Luanshya, I made a commitment that comes straight from my heart.

When the people of Zambia entrust us with the presidency next month, my government will officially declare a National Miners’ Day in honour of the men and women whose sweat, sacrifice and hard work have built our nation.

For decades, our miners have powered Zambia’s economy. The roads we travel on, the schools our children learn in, the hospitals we depend on and much of our national development have been made possible through the wealth generated by our mining industry. Yet, despite their enormous contribution, our miners have not received the recognition and respect they truly deserve.

To every miner and every mining family across Zambia: your work matters, your sacrifice matters, and your contribution to our nation will never be taken for granted under an NRPUP government.

Together, we shall restore dignity to the Zambian mine worker.
