MABUMBA ROYAL ESTABLISHMENT SEEKS PERMISSION TO VISIT MUNDUBILE, MAKEBI AT MUKOBEKO
The Mabumba Royal Establishment has formally written to the Zambia Correctional Service seeking permission for a delegation of Royal Highnesses to visit detained opposition figures at Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility.

In a letter dated September 16, 2026 and received by the Zambia Correctional Service on September 17, the Royal Establishment requested permission to visit Hon. Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu, Bishop Mwamba and others currently held at the correctional facility.

The letter, signed by HRH Chief Mabumba VIII, Ichalo Bantu, together with HRH Kalaha and HRH Mpero, states that Chief Mabumba had earlier visited the facility on September 14 with the intention of seeing the named inmates but was informed that permission from the Zambia Correctional Service headquarters was required.

The Royal Establishment said the proposed visit was intended to provide encouragement and moral support to the detainees and to understand some of the challenges they are facing while at Mukobeko.

The delegation further stated that, despite their circumstances, the individuals remain members of their family and the wider community and deserve opportunities for encouragement and hope.

The Royal Establishment consequently appealed to the Commissioner-General of the Zambia Correctional Service to consider and grant permission for the visit.
The letter does not indicate that permission had been granted at the time it was written.
