LUSANGAZI District in Eastern Province has stepped up efforts to combat Malaria following an increase in the disease burden from 457 cases per 1,000 population in 2024, to 533 cases per 1,000 population in 2025.

The district recorded 33,837 Malaria cases in 2025, with a total of 249 pregnant women affected, prompting authorities to strengthen prevention measures through the 2026 Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) campaign.

Lusangazi District Administrative Officer, Cordrington Sakala said the figures show the continued threat Malaria poses to communities, and the need for collective action to prevent further infections.

Mr Sakala was speaking recently when he flagged off the 2026 IRS campaign at Satellite 18 Rural Health Centre (RHC) Market in Lusangazi district.
