PF Secretary General for Administration Edwin Lifwekelo has called for the immediate withdrawal of campaign videos featuring former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, arguing that the late former Head of State should not be used in the ongoing 2026 General Election campaigns
In a press statement issued today, Lifwekelo accused opposition leaders Robert Chabinga Makebi and Brian Mundubile of relying on videos of the late former President instead of presenting their own campaign agenda. He described the practice as morally wrong and urged that Mr. Lungu be allowed to rest in peace.
Lifwekelo further appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) to pay attention to the circulation of the videos, calling for action against anyone found using the late former President’s images and videos for campaign purposes.
He also questioned why the late former President’s burial has not yet taken place despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter, urging the family and the Church to clarify their positions while maintaining that political campaigns should focus on current candidates and their respective manifestos rather than the legacy of a deceased leader.
