Western Province Local Government Officer, Nickson Nkwapu, has urged newly elected Councillors and the Council Chairperson to put aside personal interests and prioritise the needs and aspirations of the people they represent.

Mr Nkwapu said national development cannot be achieved if leaders fail to put the interests of their electorates first.

He said the government’s main agenda is to ensure that development reaches all parts of Western Province, hence the need for newly elected leaders to work together with communities and other stakeholders to achieve meaningful development.

Mr Nkwapu was speaking during the swearing in ceremony of the Limulunga Council Chairperson and councillors held at the Limulunga Town Council offices.

Speaking shortly after being sworn in, new Limulunga Council Chairperson, Muyunda Lubinda, assured the people in the district that improving health infrastructure would be among his priorities.

Mr Lubinda said improved health facilities would contribute to quality healthcare delivery and better the wellbeing of people in the district.

He also identified the improvement of the agricultural sector as another priority area, saying he would work closely with the Limulunga community to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of local people.

Meanwhile, Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) Representative, Induna Namuyamba has expressed disappointment with some previous council leaders whom he accused of engaging in selfish activities at the expense of the people.

Induna Namuyamba has therefore urged the newly elected Councillors and the Council Chairperson to learn from the shortcomings of the previous leadership and ensure that their decisions are guided by the interests of the people.

He said the new council leadership should promote transparency, accountability and unity while working closely with the traditional leadership and communities to accelerate development in Limulunga district.

Thirteen (13) Councilors and Council Chairperson took oath in Limulunga district for them to have authority to execute their mandate.
