New Serenje Town Council Chairperson, Patrick Munshya, has appealed to all elected civic leaders to work together regardless of their political affiliation in order to promote development in the district.

Mr Munshya emphasised the need for collective action as a means of advancing development in the district.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony of the Council Chairperson, three Members of Parliament and 21 councillors, Mr Munshya said he will prioritise developing all parts of the district.

“Council, traditional leaders and heads of government departments should put aside personal differences and work together to drive development to all parts of the district,” he said.

Mr Munshya also reminded the council that public resources belong to the people and should therefore be used prudently.

He further stressed that teamwork is essential to achieving the district’s development goals.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Allen Mweene has cautioned councillors to operate within the confines of the law as they carry out their duties.

He encouraged the newly elected councillors to remain humble and consult whenever necessary.
