Kyle Walker has given a brutally honest assessment of Thomas Tuchel’s tactical decisions after England’s heartbreaking World Cup semi-final exit:
🗣️ “Thomas Tuchel was brought in as England manager to get us over the line, but I don’t see much difference from when Gareth Southgate was in charge. We’ve got to a certain stage, we’ve done the same things as we used to, and we’ve had the same outcome.
“We have to look at the substitutions. I can’t beat around it. Tuchel needs to look at himself. Taking off Anthony Gordon and putting on Ezri Konsa meant we decided to be negative instead of chucking more of our attacking strength on. It gave Argentina a free hit to make the changes they wanted because they didn’t have to worry about our attacking power anymore.
“Plenty of people watching have never kicked a professional football in their lives, but they could see what was coming. Despite this, I don’t think it’s time to start changing managers.
Tuchel has a contract that takes him until the next Euros, and who else is there? Could we give it to an English manager? Are there any of the calibre of Thomas Tuchel? Probably not.”
