The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has maintained Zambia’s pump prices for petrol, diesel, kerosene and Jet A-1 for September 2026, despite upward pressure on international oil prices and the exchange rate.

According to a press release issued by James Banda, Board Chairperson of the Energy Regulation Board, by order of the Board, the regulator reviewed domestic petroleum product prices for September and resolved to keep the current prices unchanged.

The ERB said international oil prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene/Jet A-1 experienced upward pressure during the period under review due to continued geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The developments, combined with movements in the exchange rate, would ordinarily have placed upward pressure on domestic fuel prices.

However, the ERB said pump prices have been maintained as a result of continued policy measures, including the suspension of Excise Duty, zero-rating of Value Added Tax (VAT), as well as the regulatory price smoothing mechanism.

Under the September 2026 fuel price review, petrol remains at K25.29 per litre, while diesel remains at K26.86 per litre.

The price of kerosene has been maintained at K27.02 per litre, while Jet A-1 remains at K28.71 per litre.

The ERB’s decision means there will be no change in the national uniform pump prices for the four petroleum products at the start of September.

The regulator said the current fuel prices will remain in force and continue to apply until they are revised during the next fuel price review.

The September fuel price decision will be closely watched by motorists, businesses and consumers, as fuel prices have a direct impact on transportation costs, goods and services and the broader cost of living.
