Armitage Environmental Social Consultant, Mwila Kafungwa has disclosed that the construction works on the long-awaited Kipemba Solar Power Project in Solwezi District are expected to commence in November this year following the mobilisation of resources.
Mr Kafungwa says the 200-megawatt solar power plant, whose implementation stalled in 2022, is expected to contribute significantly to energy generation and economic development in North-Western Province.
Mr Kafungwa disclosed this when a delegation from Armitage paid a courtesy call on North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Grandson Katambi, retired, in Solwezi.
He said the team is currently undertaking stakeholder engagement and planning reviews aimed at understanding community dynamics and assessing any changes in local governance structures before the project commences.
