Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has announced a landmark ZMW 93 million (US$5 million) sponsorship pledge over the next five years with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), in what has been described as the biggest corporate investment in Zambian football to date.

The deal, unveiled in Chingola on will see KCM become the Official Partner of FAZ and will support both men’s and women’s national football teams across all age groups.

The sponsorship also makes KCM the Title Sponsor of the KCM FAZ Cup, Zambia’s premier knockout competition.

KCM Board Chairman Dr. Moses Banda said the investment reflects the passion of the company’s employees and its commitment to national development through sport.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with the Football Association of Zambia at the behest of our passionate employees, once again. Football has a unique ability to unite communities and inspire future generations,”Dr. Banda stated.

The announcement comes just weeks after KCM threw its weight behind the Copper Queens, who are currently representing Zambia at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Meanwhile, FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya welcomed the partnership, saying it marks a turning point for the administration and development of football in the country.

“Partnering with KCM to support football at both national and club level is a significant milestone for FAZ. This sponsorship will strengthen the growth of the game, enhance our competitiveness across all levels and create more opportunities for players, coaches and supporters throughout the country,” Chakatazya said.

FAZ says the five-year commitment will provide stability for long-term planning, including grassroots programmes, coach education, and improved preparations for national teams.

“This is not just sponsorship. It is an investment in the future of Zambian football,” Chakatazya added.
