Former Lusaka Central Constituency Member of Parliament, Mulambo Haimbe, has commended voters for turning out in large numbers to participate in the electoral process.

Mr Haimbe, who arrived at the Kabulonga Boys Polling Station around 05:00 hours, described the electoral environment as peaceful, adding that the strong voter turnout demonstrates growing interest in democracy.

He said the peaceful nature of the campaign and voting process is a positive indication that citizens have listened to the messages from various candidates and are now exercising their democratic right.

Mr Haimbe who is also representing the United Party for National Development, (UPND), encouraged eligible voters who had not yet casted their ballots to turn up and participate in the electoral process.

He said citizens have a responsibility to exercise their democratic rights by taking part in elections.

Meanwhile, other voters interviewed by the media described the voting process as peaceful.
