ISRAELI MINISTER CALLS FOR RECOGNITION OF FALKLAND ISLANDS AS ARGENTINE TERRITORY

Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has reportedly called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize the Falkland Islands as Argentine territory, challenging Britain’s sovereignty over the disputed South Atlantic islands.

Ben-Gvir described the United Kingdom as an occupying power in relation to the Falklands and urged Israel to take a tougher diplomatic stance toward London, including imposing sanctions on Britain.

The remarks could further strain relations between Israel and the UK, which have already faced significant diplomatic tensions over the Middle East.

The Falkland Islands, known as the Islas Malvinas in Argentina, have been administered by Britain since 1833, while Argentina continues to claim sovereignty over them. The two countries fought a 74-day war over the islands in 1982, after Argentina invaded the territory.

Any move by Israel to recognize Argentina’s claim would represent a significant shift in its foreign policy and could trigger a strong response from London.
