I take Hichilema as Jesus, says UPND Youth Chair

UPND Eastern Province Youth Chairman Lyson Nyirenda has likened President Hakainde Hichilema to Jesus Christ, saying that just as Jesus fed the hungry and cared for people’s needs, the Head of State has done the same through various government programmes.

Addressing party supporters, Nyirenda says Zambia’s 72 tribes all have an equal right to produce a President, adding that there is nothing wrong with President Hichilema having been born to Tonga parents.

“We have 72 tribes, and anyone from these tribes can become President. It is not a sin that President Hichilema was born Tonga.

“When I look at Hakainde Hichilema, I take him as Jesus [Christ]. Why do I take him that way? Because Jesus healed the sick and fed the hungry, but people still doubted that he could solve their problems. He was crucified,” Nyirenda says.

He says President Hichilema has served the people of Zambia the same way Jesus did, in his time on earth.

“HH too has responded to the needs of the people through Cash for Work, Social Cash Transfer and many other programmes,” Nyirenda says.

Nyirenda argues that despite criticism, President Hichilema has continued implementing programmes aimed at improving the welfare of Zambians, saying his leadership should be judged by the impact of those initiatives.
