The UPND Alliance says it has recorded historic political growth, with its parliamentary representation in the Northern Circuit jumping by 250% between 2021 and 2026, Felix Mutati has announced.

Mutati, who is also President of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and UPND Alliance Partner said the results of the just-ended general elections confirm that Zambians have voted for “progress, stability, and unity” under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mutati highlighted the party’s gains in Luapula, Northern, and Muchinga provinces.

“In 2021, the UPND Alliance had only 4 elected Members of Parliament across these 3 provinces. Today in 2026, we are proud to have 14 elected Members of Parliament in the same region,” he celebrated.

Mutati described the increase as evidence of “the deep trust the people in the north now have in the UPND administration.”

With the new results, Mutati said the UPND Alliance has now achieved a true national character with elected MPs in all 10 provinces of Zambia.

“We are not a party for one region; we are a party for all Zambians, from east to west, north to south,” he stated.

The MDC President also pointed to growing economic confidence, citing international financial markets.

“Just yesterday, Bloomberg reported that Zambia’s domestic bond auction was oversubscribed by 37%,” Mutati said.

He explained that this meant investors brought 37% more money than government requested to borrow, and were willing to accept lower returns.

“This strong financial market credit confidence is proof that our economic recovery plan is working,” he added.

Mutati said, credit goes to “the visionary leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema” and his commitment to “honest leadership, equal treatment, and hard work.”

He noted that the government’s focus will be on delivering commitments in the 2026 to 2031 Manifesto, with priority on job creation for youth and women, economic growth, and inclusive development.
