President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the people of Chilanga District to support United Party for National Development (UPND) candidates in the August 13 general elections, saying their vote is key to sustaining economic growth.

Addressing a community engagement meeting in Chilanga, President Hichilema says his administration has lined up several development projects for the district.

The Head of State noted that the government has already completed more than 5.4 kilometres of drainage works in the district and pledged that additional roads will be upgraded if the UPND is given another mandate in the forthcoming elections.

“Today we are here in Chilanga district to make a decision with you that on August 13th you must vote for the UPND Candidates, your votes are very important for us,” he said.

Mr Hichilema said electing UPND candidates would ensure continued economic progress, adding that the opposition should not be allowed to return to office because it allegedly mismanaged the country’s economy.

He further appealed to residents to continue supporting what he described as a peaceful party that has denounced political violence and caderism in public places.

“We must not go back to the era of where violence, huge debt and lawlessness was the order of the day, the UPND government has demonstrated exemplary leadership by employing health workers and 45,000 teachers among other government staff,” he said.

The President also encouraged nurses, teachers and other qualified professionals awaiting recruitment to remain hopeful, stating that more employment opportunities would be created should the UPND secure another term in office.

He also reminded residents of the challenges families previously faced in paying school fees, saying many parents were reportedly forced to sell livestock and other belongings to educate their children.

Mr Hichilema further highlighted Chilanga’s industrial potential, citing the presence of a fertilizer plant and expressing optimism that more industries would be established in the district.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Province UPND Chairman Obvious Mwaliteta appealed to Chilanga residents to vote for President Hichilema and other UPND candidates to ensure continued national development.

“You cannot substitute the winning team of President Hichilema because they have scored in a number of areas such as education, health and agriculture among others,” he said.

And Lusaka mayoral aspiring candidate Simon Mwewa commended President Hichilema for promoting peace, unity and condemning caderism in public places.
