The government has assured the University of Zambia that 10,640 new bed spaces will be added to the University, inorder to address accommodation challenges.

Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for Educational Services, Dr Kelvin Mambwe, also said that government will deliver an additional 6,480 bed spaces through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement within 24 months.

Speaking during the University’s 55th Graduation Ceremony, Dr Mambwe said this will help create conducive learning environment for the students.

“The bed spaces include the completion of hostels with a capacity of 4,160 at both the Great East Road and Ridgeway Campuses,” he said.

Dr Mambwe said government is committed to ensuring that it strengthens the education sector through infrastructure development, among other educational investments.

Earlier, UNZA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mundia Muya said the institution remains committed to producing competent graduates.

Professor Muya further commended government for supporting infrastructure and Sanitation rehabilitation projects at the institution.

This year’s graduation saw 150 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holders, 1,585 Master’s Degree recipients, and 4,136 undergraduate students. -Kalemba
