Government is set to mobilise funds to facilitate the completion of the construction of Matumbo Boarding Secondary School in Shiwang’andu District in Muchinga Province.

Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Tuesday Bwalya says government is committed to ensuring that the project, which commenced in 2012, is completed and becomes operational in due course.

Dr Bwalya noted that construction works at the school have been progressing at a slow pace over the years due to inadequate funding, adding that the government has now prioritised the completion of the project as part of its agenda to improve the education sector in the area.

“We are very delighted and appreciative of such efforts by the New Dawn Government and our colleagues from the Ministry of Education, but I just want to appeal to them to see how we can expedite these works by ensuring that we give enough resources to our contractor,” he said.

Dr Bwalya also commended the quality of work being undertaken at the project, saying once the school completed it will provide modern infrastructure for learners in the area.

And Shanghai Contractors Site Foreman Alex Sitolo, disclosed that the project is currently at 70 percent completion stage.

Mr Sitolo mentioned that the project was initially scheduled for completion in September this year but erratic funding had affected the planned completion date.

He said timely availability of resources would enable the contractor to complete the remaining works.

“We are grateful that with the government’s intervention now, we will be able to finish this project when funds are quickly mobilised,” he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Matumbo Secondary School Headteacher, Lesa Bwalya has thanked the government for prioritising the completion of the project which had stalled for several years.

Mr Bwalya said the completion of the school will help accommodate the increasing number of learners returning to school following the introduction of the free education Law.

He highlighted that the strategic location of the school would also enable it to attract learners from surrounding areas where education infrastructure remains limited.
