Luampa District Commissioner, Alfred Mandumbwa, says 1,330 households have received farming inputs under the 2026 Food Security Pack (FSP) Wetland Cropping Programme.

The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services through the Department of Community Development.

The programme aims to empower poor and vulnerable but viable farming households with agricultural inputs to engage in dry-season farming, thereby enhancing household food security, nutrition and income.

He said the Food Security Pack is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen social protection and reduce the cost of living.

“Government is implementing social protection programmes such as the Food Security Pack to reduce the cost of living and enhance food security at household level,” Mr. Mandumbwa said.

And District Community Development Officer, Sindwa Nganga confirmed that 1,330 households have benefited from the programme.

“Each household has received a 5kg bag of maize seed, 25kg bag of agricultural lime, one 50kg bag of Urea fertilizer, and one 50kg bag of Compound D fertilizer,” Ms. Nganga said.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the support will help them secure food and improve income at household level.

“We are grateful to government because these inputs will ensure our children have food even when maize is scarce during the rainy season,” Mr Joseph Mabu said.

Judith Monde, also a beneficiary, said the support will help them improve household food security adding that they also sell some maize to meet other household needs.
