FORMER VICE PRESIDENTS NOW ENTITLED TO RETIREMENT BENEFITS – HH

President Hakainde Hichilema has announced that former vice presidents are now entitled to retirement benefits following the enactment into law of the Benefits of Former Presidents and Former Vice-Presidents Act on 4th June 2026.

The President said his administration became concerned about the welfare of former vice presidents after assuming office, prompting the government to appoint former vice presidents as his Special Envoys.

He named Dr. Guy Scott, Malimba Masheke, Dr. Nevers Mumba, Ms. Inonge Wina and General Godfrey Miyanda among those appointed.

President Hichilema said it is important for the country to appreciate not only presidents but also the teams that serve around the Presidency, adding that the new law guarantees retirement benefits for former vice presidents.

Speaking during the State Funeral of former Vice President Dr. Guy Scott, President Hichilema described the late statesman as a noble leader who stood firm for Zambia following the death of President Michael Sata at a time when the then-ruling Patriotic Front (PF) was engulfed in succession disputes.

The Head of State also called on politicians to put the country first ahead of the 13th August General Elections, urging political players to promote peace instead of violence.

Meanwhile, Dr. Guy Scott’s wife, Charlotte Scott, and his children paid tribute to the late Dr. Scott, describing him as a man who deeply loved Zambia and dedicated his life to serving the nation.
