ECZ STRONGLY DISMISSES FALSE CLAIMS OVER TANZANIA BALLOT PRINTING

In a Statement by Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Brown Kasaro has denied all false and malicious allegations circulating on The Candidates Facebook page that the Commission has secretly printed extra ballot papers in Tanzania.

The claims state that the ballot papers will be smuggled into Zambia through the Nakonde border with the assistance of the Zambia Army and will then be distributed in Eastern, Luapula, Norther and Muchinga provinces to favour President Hakainde Hichilema.

The Statement reveals that this is a repeated occurrence by the Candidates Facebook page which has circulated false claims in the past over the printing of ballot papers. The Commission have officially urged those responsible “to desist from misleading the public, political stakeholders, and unsuspecting citizens with false and inflammatory information.”

The ECZ have confirmed in the statement that the ballot papers are exclusively being printed at Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing in Dubai, and this is being witnessed by various stakeholders; political party representatives and the media.

The Chief Electoral Officer has also revealed that ballot papers will be transported by air (chartered plane) from Dubai directly to the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka. “The Commission will update the nation on the dispatch schedule, and all stakeholders will be invited to witness the arrival and verification of the ballot papers before they are distributed to various districts.”

The ECZ further noted in the statement that “no ballot paper for the 2026 General Election will enter the country by road through any border.” They urged stakeholders and the public not to be misled by individuals seeking to discredit the electoral process through false claims.
