GOVERNANCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCATE URGES STATE TO UPHOLD RIGHTS OF MUNDUBILE AND MAKEBI IN TREASON CASE

By Josphat Mbewe

Governance and Human Rights Advocate Dr. Noel Chisebe has called on the State to ensure that Tonse Pamodzi Alliance leaders Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, who have been charged with treason, are accorded their full constitutional rights, including access to legal representation, bail where applicable, and a fair and speedy trial.

Dr. Chisebe who is also Alliance Against Corruption Executive Director says the State must also present credible evidence before the court to substantiate the treason charges levelled against the Tonse Alliance leaders and other opposition members.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Dr. Chisebe says failure to uphold these constitutional safeguards could undermine the integrity of the justice system and erode public confidence in law enforcement agencies and other State institutions.

He says the credibility of the justice process will depend on the State demonstrating its case through credible evidence while ensuring that all constitutional safeguards are respected

.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chisebe has appealed to supporters of the Tonse Alliance and members of the public to remain calm and allow the courts to determine the matter without intimidation, interference or violence.
