COPPERBELT POLICE SAY UNKNOWN BURGLARS WERE BEHIND BURGLARY AT UPND SECRETARIAT, DENY BLOCKING TONSE ALLIANCE RALLY.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi has dismissed claims that police blocked the Tonse Alliance from holding its campaign rally in Ndola, saying the alliance was allowed to proceed with the event.
Mr. Yuyi told Radio Icengelo News that police only stopped the alliance from conducting a procession because it was not part of the agreed campaign programme.
He disclosed that 14 Tonse Alliance supporters have been arrested for allegedly taking part in an unlawful assembly and procession.
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has also dismissed media reports suggesting that opposition members were behind the break-in at the UPND Dag Hammarskjold Constituency Secretariat in Twapia.
Mr. Yuyi said preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was carried out by unknown burglars and that investigations are still ongoing.
He warned those involved in burglary that their days are numbered, adding that police are committed to apprehending those responsible.
