TONSE ALLIANCE YET TO DECIDE NEXT STEPS AFTER ELECTION PETITION DEADLINE LAPSES

The Tonse Pamodzi Alliance says its partners are yet to meet to determine the way forward following the expiry of the deadline for challenging the presidential election results.

Alliance Spokesperson Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa has told Phoenix News that the alliance partners will meet to assess the situation before announcing their next course of action.

Dr Mwelwa has also expressed concern over the closure of the Constitutional Court on the final day of the period within which political parties were expected to file petitions challenging the election results.

He says although reasons were given for the court’s closure, the timing was concerning, given the Constitutional Court’s important role in resolving electoral disputes.

Tonse Pamodzi Alliance Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile had earlier indicated that he would petition the Constitutional Court to challenge the August 13 presidential election results, in which President Hakainde Hichilema was declared the winner

However, the court was closed yesterday, which was the final day of the deadline for filing a petition.
