52-YEAR-OLD MWENILUNGA WOMAN WALKS TO LUSAKA TO THANK HH IN PERSON

A 52-year-old woman from Mwinilunga, North-Western Province, is walking hundreds of kilometres to Lusaka in hopes of meeting President-elect Hakainde Hichilema face to face and expressing her appreciation for what she describes as his achievements.

Maggie Nsapato began her journey from Kanongesha Chiefdom in Mwinilunga on August 13, determined to complete the journey on foot.

As of this morning, Nsapato had reached the Luanshya turn-off, where she took a rest after several days on the road.

She says the free education policy, which has benefited four of her children, is among the initiatives that inspired her journey. She also praised the increased Social Cash Transfer support.

«“My body and my legs hurt because of walking, but I’m determined to thank the President in person,” she said.»

Despite the physical challenges, Nsapato says she will continue the journey regardless of whether she reaches Lusaka before or after the September 1 inauguration, as her main goal is to meet Hichilema personally.

Along the way, well-wishers have reportedly supported her with food, accommodation and other necessities.
