CHIVAYO DONATED US$250,000 TO HIGHLANDERS HOURS BEFORE FATAL CRASH

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo donated US$250,000 to Highlanders Football Club on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before he was killed in a helicopter crash in Marondera.

Highlanders confirmed the latest donation in a statement dated 30 September 2026, thanking Chivayo for the contribution towards the club’s financial obligations.

According to the club, the US$250,000 donation was received on Wednesday and will help Highlanders move towards clearing outstanding obligations to its playing staff while providing financial stability as the season reaches its closing stages.

The latest contribution takes Chivayo’s support for Highlanders over the past two years to more than US$2 million, according to the club.

Highlanders said his support had included assistance towards staff obligations, club infrastructure and the donation of a team bus.

The club said the latest contribution forms part of Chivayo’s continued support as Highlanders celebrates its historic centenary.

Chivayo made the US$250,000 contribution at around 1pm on Wednesday, approximately four hours before the fatal helicopter crash reported in Marondera at around 5pm.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the aircraft had six occupants, while the Government said there were no survivors.

Highlanders expressed its gratitude to Chivayo for his continued support, saying the club hoped to build an even stronger relationship as it entered its next 100 years.
