The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has launched the Commercial and Marketing Advisory Committee, which is earmarked to reduce the debt burden and beef up the coffers of the association.

According to a statement issued by FAZ, the committee was launched, and an ambitious $30 million has been set in the two-year tenure.

Recent financial reports indicated that FAZ has a K17.3 million debt to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

Football in Zambia is deemed to be less commercial, and the majority of the funding, especially by the main body FAZ, emanates from the government.

This has limited the funding capacity for grassroots football, which, up to now, remains overly underdeveloped.

Ultimately, prickling on the growth of the national teams, interestingly, in recent years, the FA has failed or delayed paying the dues of the players.

Many football stakeholders have lauded the initiative and are highly expectant of its footprints on the growth of football.

While some have criticized FA President Keith Mweemba for establishing too many committees that are not as productive.

Can the $30 million target be attained?

The composition of the committee, highlights key figures across law, banking and football sector, namely lawyers Milingo Lungu, Mosho (Lewis Nathan Advocates), Kambobe (Marketing and Communications expert), Presidential Advisor Jito Kayumba, ABSA Managing Director Mizinga Melu, IBA Director Webster Malido, Solomon Ngoma (Policy Expert), Hazel Couvaras (Customer Experiences Director Zamtel), Katongo Chilufya (KoBold Metals), Brian Siatubi (Head of Corporate Affairs-KCM) and Eugine Phiri (Marketing and Corporate expert).
