LUSAKA – The Tonse Alliance has suspended its Secretary General, Dr Chris Zumani Zimba, and commenced disciplinary proceedings against him over what it describes as a series of unauthorised press and social media statements.
In a letter dated September 7, 2026, Tonse Alliance President Brian Mundubile informed Zimba that his conduct had allegedly brought the organisation into disrepute.
Mundubile said the suspension had been effected under Article 13(6) of the Tonse Constitution, pending investigations into Zimba’s conduct and the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.
“Formal allegations shall be provided to you for your comment and explanation,” the letter states.
During the suspension, Zimba has been directed not to go to the Tonse Secretariat or issue any statement on behalf of the alliance.
He has also been instructed not to use the titles of Tonse Secretary General or adviser to the President or organisation.
The letter further directs Zimba to hand over all Tonse properties and documents in his possession to First Vice President Chifumu Kingdom Banda SC.
Mundubile said the Tonse Chairman and the Alliance Legal Affairs Chairperson had been instructed to put into operation the relevant provisions of Article 16 of the Tonse Constitution.
The suspension comes amid heightened political activity within the Tonse Alliance following the August 2026 general elections.
Zimba has been given an opportunity to respond to the allegations once they are formally presented to him.
The letter was copied to the First Vice President, Second Vice President, Chairman and National Legal Affairs Chairperson of Tonse Alliance.
