‘We failed you,’ B Flow admits as Macky 2 calls out musicians over campaign support

ZAMBIA Association of Musicians (ZAM) president Brian Bwembya, widely known as B Flow, has admitted that the music industry failed to support losing Nchanga Independent parliamentary candidate Mulaza Kaira, popularly known as Macky 2, during his election campaign in the August 13 general elections.

B Flow made the admission after Macky 2 publicly complained that only a handful of musicians stood with him during his campaigns in Chingola, despite the support he has given the industry over the years.

The exchange started after B Flow made a Facebook appreciation post for musician Mampi, praising her for secretly supporting people and revealing that she had sponsored a number of artists who performed at Macky 2’s final campaign rally.

B Flow said Mampi had gone as far as supporting artists who travelled from the Copperbelt and other parts of the country to campaign for Macky 2, while the Zambia Association of Musicians provided fuel money.

Macky 2 responded by acknowledging Mampi’s support, saying she was family and had personally sent him money to help with his campaign before the elections.

However, he said the support from the wider music industry was not as extensive as portrayed.

“But let’s be honest, musicians did not show up for me in Chingola the way you are making it sound here. Out of thousands, only like six artists stood with me. In fact, some artists even came to perform for my opponents,” Macky 2 wrote down in a Facebook post.

The musician-turned-politician also took a swipe at B Flow, saying social media posts of support were not enough when he needed fellow musicians physically present on the campaign trail.

“Not even you B Flow.. And by the way, utuma Facebook posts don’t count. Lol,” he said.

Macky 2 said he had deliberately kept quiet about his disappointment because he did not want to fuel negativity within the music industry.

He said he had expected more support because he believed his campaign and potential victory would have benefited the industry as a whole.

“I stayed quiet about this because I hate feeding negativity, especially when our industry is already being reduced to its worst parts. But honestly I expected more.. especially that my win was meant to be for all of us,” he said.

Despite the disappointment, Macky 2 said he did not believe anyone owed him support and maintained that he would continue helping other artists whenever he could.

And B Flow has since accepted taking responsibility of Macky 2’s complaints on behalf of the industry.

“True Macky 2, you have a point. We failed you and I take the blame on behalf of the industry. I pray God grants us an opportunity to do better next time. I will call you,” replied B Flow.
