Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffery Zyeele says he has instructed the Copperbelt Provincial Joint Operations Committee to ensure security is maintained in the province.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Lawrence Mwanza, Lt General Zyeele said he is happy that the Copperbelt was calm but unpredictable because of the boarders which pose security threatening issues.

He said the Copperbelt shares boundaries with the Democratic Republic of Congo and a lot was happening through border points like Kasumbalesa, which threaten national security.

He added that the army command was aware of the challenges faced by truckers, which have threatened security.

Lt.Gen. Zyeele said regardless of the few happenings the province was collaborating well, especially with the Provincial Joint Operations Committee.

He said his team was in the province to share experiences with the soldiers and also give them strategic foresight to ensure that their duties are carried out as per requirement.

He expressed happiness that the province was more peaceful than it used to be.

And Mr Mwanza has encouraged the Zambia Army to continue working closely with other security wings and relevant institutions to safeguard the country’s borders.

Mr Mwanza noted that protection of Zambia’s territorial boundaries is a matter of national importance and requires continuing vigilance, intelligence gathering, and close relations among all security agencies.
