SOLWEZI – Police have arrested a Zambia National Service (ZNS) officer and another man in connection with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Sarkodie Chibuye in Solwezi’s Kandemba Compound.

The latest arrests come less than 48 hours after the shooting, which shocked residents and sparked a manhunt for the suspects.

ZNS Officer Identified as First Suspect

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that the first suspect has been identified as Private Kayombo Sakayi, 40, a serving Zambia National Service officer stationed in Solwezi.

According to police, Sakayi remains admitted to hospital under police guard after sustaining injuries during the incident.

He is expected to face murder-related charges once medical authorities certify him fit to be discharged.

Second Suspect Arrested

Police have also confirmed the arrest of a second suspect identified as Samuel Mupila, aged 31, a resident of Solwezi.

Chilabi said Mupila was apprehended at around 1:00 pm during an intelligence-led operation after allegedly fleeing the crime scene.

“Samuel Mupila was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation and is currently in police custody,” Chilabi said.

His arrest brings to an end a brief police manhunt launched after the fatal shooting.

Murder Docket Opened

Police have since opened a murder docket as investigations into the fatal shooting continue.

Authorities are working to establish the circumstances that led to the deadly incident and the roles allegedly played by each suspect.

The arrests follow the shooting that claimed the life of Sarkodie Chibuye, who was allegedly shot during an altercation in Kandemba Compound.

Investigations Continue

Police say investigations remain active, and further details will be released as the case progresses.

The Zambia Police Service has urged members of the public to allow investigators to carry out their work while the suspects remain in lawful custody.

The case is expected to proceed through the courts once investigations are concluded and the suspects are formally charged.
