The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) has announced that it has secured the broadcast rights to televise tonight’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Zambia and Algeria.

The announcement comes just hours before the highly anticipated Group I encounter, giving football fans across Zambia an opportunity to watch the Chipolopolo Boys live on ZNBC TV.

According to a statement issued by ZNBC Head of Corporate Affairs Yvette Tembo Chanda, the public broadcaster successfully concluded last-minute negotiations to secure the rights to the fixture.

“Following last-minute successful negotiations, ZNBC has officially secured the broadcast rights to air tonight’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Algeria and Zambia,” the broadcaster said.

The development is expected to come as welcome news to Zambian football supporters who were awaiting confirmation on where they could watch the national team’s opening AFCON 2027 qualifier.

The match is being played at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, Algeria, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 Zambian time.

ZNBC said football enthusiasts can tune in to ZNBC TV to follow the Chipolopolo’s opening Group I fixture.

The broadcast confirmation follows earlier uncertainty surrounding the availability of Zambia’s away AFCON qualifying matches on local television. A report published earlier on Friday had indicated that ZNBC had not acquired the rights to broadcast Zambia’s away fixtures, before the latest announcement confirming the successful negotiations.

The Chipolopolo enter the encounter under interim head coach George Lwandamina, who said ahead of the game that the team had prepared adequately for the challenge against Algeria.

Captain Fashion Sakala has also expressed confidence in the squad after what the technical bench described as a productive period in camp.

The Algeria match is Zambia’s first assignment in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, with the team scheduled to face Togo in its next qualifier on September 29.

For Zambian supporters, the late confirmation from ZNBC means the national team’s opening campaign can now be followed from home as the Chipolopolo begin their journey towards qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
