The Zambia Youths Association in the Fight Against Corruption (ZYAFAC) has urged its election monitors to remain neutral, professional and non-partisan during the August 13 General Elections.

ZYAFAC Board Chairperson Rickson Kanema says the monitors have a responsibility to observe and document the electoral process without supporting any political party or candidate.

Mr Kanema noted that the 250 monitors accredited by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should act as the eyes of communities at polling stations and promote the integrity of the electoral process.

He was speaking in Lusaka during a ZYAFAC Election Monitoring Training Workshop at Ndeke Hotel.

He added that the organisation expects the monitors to contribute to peaceful, free, fair and credible elections through responsible and non-partisan monitoring.

“You are not here to campaign, you are here to observe, document and promote integrity.” he said

Mr Kanema also said ZYAFAC has also engaged the Electoral Commission of Zambia, Anti-Corruption Commission, Drug Enforcement Commission and the media as resource persons.

He emphasized that ZYAFAC expects the training to strengthen its monitoring and reporting system and enhance public confidence in the electoral process through credible and non-partisan youth-led election monitoring.

Mr Kanema further reminded the monitors that their participation in the elections should be guided by national interest and the desire to contribute to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
