General News 1 min.Read Zambia exporting electric cables and batteries – President Hichilema By Guest Editor July 23, 2026 FacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsAppPresident Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia has commenced exporting electric cables and batteries manufactured at the Chisamba Multi-Facility Economic Zone to neighbouring countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The President says the industrial facility is producing electric cables and batteries that are currently being exported to eight countries in the region.
Mr Hichilema said this today during a community engagement meeting at John Chinena area in Chibombo District, Central Province.
The Head of State further announced that government will construct a market and a health facility at John Chinena to improve access to trading facilities and healthcare services for residents.
On road infrastructure, President Hichilema, who earlier inspected works on the Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway, directed the contractor to construct a lay-by along the highway to enable traders to sell vegetables, goods and other services in a safe and convenient environment.
The President also said government will save about US$1.2 billion on the Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway project following the revision of the contract.
Mr Hichilema explained that the previous contract for the project was valued at about US$1.8 billion but was cancelled after the UPND administration assumed office in 2021, with a new contract awarded at approximately US$650 million.
“I cancelled that contract of building the Lusaka–Ndola Road because it was too expensive,” President Hichilema said.
And, Mr Hichilema urged the electorates to vote for him and all the aspiring UPND candidates contesting for councilors, mayoral and parliamentary seats.
He advised voters against wasting their vote by voting for the opposition that allegedly have no direction and experience to govern the affairs of the nation.
The Head of State further said the UPND had already secured a number of local authority seats in some areas where he said opposition political parties did not field candidates.
Meanwhile, UPND National Chairperson, Collins Maoma, alleged that the previous Patriotic Front (PF) administration mismanaged the country’s affairs and urged voters to support the UPND in the forthcoming general elections.
Mr Maoma also cautioned against using the death of Sixth Republican President, Edgar Lungu, for political purposes.
And UPND Mwomboshi Aspiring Member of Parliament, Chushi Kasanda, called on voters to make informed choices during the elections.
Ms Kasanda said the UPND government has implemented programmes that have improved the livelihoods of many Zambians and appealed to the electorates to renew the party’s mandate.
