Traditional leaders in Chembe District of Luapula Province have praised the government for implementing development policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of local people.

Speaking when Vice President Mutale Nalumango visited the district, Chief Kasomalwela commended the government for increasing the enhanced Constituency Development Fund, saying the initiative has enabled the implementation of several development projects in the area.

Chief also welcomed the ongoing upgrade of the Pedicle Road, saying the project will ease the movement of goods and services and boost trade between Zambia and the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo once completed.

However, he appealed to the government to ensure that the contractor, Sable Transport and Construction Limited, expedites works on the 11-kilometer stretch of the road.

Chief Kasomalwela further urged the government to rehabilitate the district’s feeder roads, which he said are in a poor state.

He also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of political campaigns ahead of the general elections.

Meanwhile, Chief Kalasalukangaba reiterated the call for the Pedicle Road project to be completed.

In her remarks, Vice President Mutale Nalumango emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government and traditional leaders, describing them as key partners in national development.

Mrs Nalumango acknowledged the concerns raised by the traditional leaders and urged the local authority to effectively utilise available earth-moving equipment to improve feeder roads in the district.

The Vice President also met members of the clergy, who appealed to the government to recruit more education and health personnel from within Chembe District.

Pastors Fellowship Chairperson, Leo Nkonde, said the church remains committed to promoting peaceful elections across the country.

Meanwhile, the Vice President called on the Church to continue praying for those in authority and the nation at large for peace and unity.

And, in a meeting with civil servants, Mrs Nalumango urged them to effectively understand and implement government policies.

Later, during a public meeting, Vice President Nalumango urged Chembe residents to vote for the UPND in the forthcoming general elections to sustain the country’s development agenda.
